SURVEILLANCE OF HOSPITAL ACQUIRED INFECTIONS IN KAMPONG CHAM PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL, CAMBODIA

  • Partners: Department of Hospital Services (MOH Cambodia), WHO country office Cambodia
  • Funding: US-CDC and WHO Cambodia
  • Start of the activities: Sep. 2010
  • Project type: Capacity building and support of MOH for the implementation of the National Plan for Infection Control, Surveillance, Nosocomial Infections
  • Objectives: Estimation of incidence rate of Superficial Surgical Site Infections (SSI) following Caesarean Deliveries (CD), assessment of antimicrobial resistance and identification of possible risk factors for infection
  • Outline: systematic post surgery clinical monitoring by nurse and surgeons, collection of clinical data, collection of specimens (wound discharge) for microbiology testing at the hospital lab
  • Progresses: Since Oct. 2011, extensio of the scope of the surveillance to Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) for all type of cleaned surgery
