APEC EINet Virtual Symposium

The APEC EINet Virtual Symposium 2011 was held on 11 November 2011. the participants consist of APEC economies who are members of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Emerging Infections Network (APEC EINet) - Australia, Chile, Chinese Taipie, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and the United States of America.
APEC EINet provides timely and reliable information via the internet on emerging infectious diseases in the Asia Pacific. By enhancing the knowledge, awareness and understanding of emerging infectious diseases, it is envisioned that health, trade, and policy professionals will be better prepared against such diseases and othe bio-threats. Communication, coordination, and collaboration between the 21 APEC member economies were also actively promoted to enhance regional bio-preparedness in the Asia Pacific.
The discussion topic for APEC EINet Virtual Symposium 2011 was "Trade and Travel Impacts of Infectious Diseases". Dr Mark Oberle (Director of APEC EINet) and Dr Rodney Hoff (Executive Director of REDI Center) delivered welcome addresses to commence the virtual symposium.
The Singapore presentation on "Impact of MDRTB cases among Medical Tourists in Singapore" was given by Ms. Jayne Lim, Senior Public Health Officer, Policy & Control Branch of Communicable Diseases Division, Ministry of Health (MOH).
Singapore Advanced Research and Education Network (SingAREN) facilitated MOH and REDI Center's participation in the Virtual Symposium at HP Labs Singapore.
